Generation Handball will be something very special. As director of Viborg HK for 12 years, I have of course seen and experienced a lot in handball, but Generation Handball’s particular combination of festival and handball is something completely new, and I am really looking forward to following the development of this exciting project, which is being supported by Viborg Municipality and Viborg Sports Council.

Viborg is going to be buzzing with handball, celebration, and joy during the festival, when the whole stadium area will be closed to traffic and transformed into one big handball city – a festival camp with handball as the focal point. About 3,000 young people from many different countries will come to put their mark on the city, and we hope that people from the city will also come to the stadium area to see the spectacular opening ceremony and of course some of the many exciting matches that will be played. There is something for every handball taste: Youth games in handball and beach handball for both sexes and two professional training events for women and men.

Generation Handball will become a fixed tradition, and Viborg Municipality has provided financial support for the first four years so that the festival can be sure to gain a firm foothold and a good foundation to build this unique combination of handball and a festival. I believe that Generation Handball is a concept that could achieve great success. Festival, handball, and people from around the world meeting in a unique place in the middle of Viborg, which is centrally located in Denmark with easy access, and where the tradition of handball is already huge.

I am very much looking forward to every year of it, and I hope that both by clubs from around the world and the citizens of Viborg Municipality will display a great interest in Generation Handball!
